The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (Trailer #1) Review
Since when are teasers 2 minutes long, this is a full trailer and am reviewing it. I liked the first Hobbit film and am a big fan of the Lord of the Rings trilogy so as you’d imagine I’ve been looking forward to this trailer, however I didn’t think I’d be seeing it so early with another 6 months till release. Am sure it has something to do with Warner Bros. other big release this year Man of Steel allowing for wide exposure of this trailer. Anyway the trailer looks pretty good, lots of action, great cast, impressive visuals and cracking musical score which I am hoping is expanded from the last film so the sound doesn’t get stale. Hope you enjoy the trailer and stills I managed to grab. Comment and like at the end please.

My Score: B+
Release date: 13th December 2013
Plot:
After successfully crossing over (and under) the Misty Mountains, Thorin and Company must seek aid from a powerful stranger before taking on the dangers of Mirkwood Forest–without their Wizard. If they reach the human settlement of Lake-town it will be time for the hobbit Bilbo Baggins to fulfill his contract with the dwarves. The party must complete the journey to Lonely Mountain and burglar Baggins must seek out the Secret Door that will give them access to the hoard of the dragon Smaug. And, where has Gandalf got off to? And what is his secret business to the south?

Top 8 Scenes
8. Beorn The Skin-Changer
After the gang are dropped off by the eagles they meet this guy Beorn who can transform into a big black bear, so yeah am pretty sure that’s him there. I am actually remembering some of these scenes which is nice but potentially spoilers for the rest of you.
–
7. Lake Town
Lake Town, or Esgaroth is a community of men upon the Long Lake just south of the Lonely Mountain and the people there live in fear of the dragon Smaug one day awakening and destroying the town like it has done before. The town looks nice; too bad it’s going to burn.
–
6. The Barrel Rapids
This scene looks fun in the trailer and in the books it’s really detailed and exciting so I can imagine another great sequence of adventure and action. It’s going to be similar in a way to the underground mines scene in The Hobbit.
–
5. Bard the Bowman
Luke Evans is a good choice for this role and I think he will do well, can’t wait to see him taking on the Smaug. Good luck Bard. This scene should be interesting because the dwarfs want to wake the dragon and kill it but the men of Lake Town are living in peace and prosperity and so don’t want it burned to the ground.
–
4. Mirkwood
The lands of the Elves looking as pretty as ever and as you’d imagine CGI all over. Not much else to say other than it should be interesting to see Lee Pace as Thranduil playing the role.
–
3. The Pale Orc
Is it just me or does Azog look extremely realistic in this shot, I mean he looked alright in the first film but he looks really well CGI’d in this shot. Creating these kind of effects is difficult enough without it also being bright sunlight and pale white skin.
–
2. Legolas with Eyeliner
Why is he wearing eyeliner? At a guess I’d say to make him look younger but he looks incredible close to his age in the lord of the rings series of films so I don’t see why. Any who it’s good to have him back shooting arrows and taking names.

1. Smaug the Desolator
If only he said “Hello Hobbit” in Benedict Cumberbatch’s voice, maybe that’s asking for too much 6 months away from release but I want it and I want it now! Smaug looks pretty good, maybe a little work needs to be done but got a while to put the finishing touches on any CGI effects.

New Poster
Well that’s my views. Now what do you think about this newest trailer?
When I saw Luke Evans in the trailer I found myself asking “Why is Will Turner in the Hobbit? and why is Orlando Bloom playing 2 characters?” haha

Don’t you be dissing Luke Evans! He’s a brit and he is playing a great role. He never gets to be the hero 😀

haha. I’m not. I literally had to take a second glance as I truly thought it was Orlando Bloom again! Evans looks like a cross between Bloom’s characters in POTC and 3 Musketeers.
I like Evans though. He’s no Paul Walker, but he’ll do! 😉 haha

Nice work Tim!! Is this one also going to be six hours long??

Oh it certainly will 😀
If anything it will be longer than the last one, this part of the book has quite a bit of content 😀

Best moment was quite clearly the spider in the forest.
And good spot with the Bear guy. I forgot about him and its another reason to be psyched for this film.

Glad you liked it, not really interested in the spiders but it could be fun 😀

Re:6. Barrel Rapids. Is it just me, or does that photo remind you of the poster for Grown Ups? http://dinca.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/grown_ups_poster_02.jpg
Re:1. Smaug the Desolator. He looks woefully one-d. This dragon needs work.

Am sure they’ll touch up Smaug, no wait that doesn’t sound right at all 😀
Thanks for the comment man 😀

If they touch up Smaug that may not be his head poking around the corner in the next trailer. Wakka Wakka Wakka!

“Since when are teasers 2 minutes long, ” LOL, that’s exactly what I said when I saw this! Peter Jackson is probably like “We’ll make it the most epic teaser trailer ever” 😀
LOL @ Legolas in eyeliner. 😀

The next trailer will be a ten minute preview 😀

Yeah, I’m surprised by how much they showed for a teaser. Even for a full trailer I might consider some of this a bit too much.

Peter Jackson doesn’t know the meaning of the word short 😀

I’m looking forward to this, but the first Hobbit didn’t do much to impress me so can’t say this one’s on the top of my to-watch list. It does seem like it’s got more excitement in it, which hopefully will be help even out the long, long wandering scenes. 😉

Well I hope its good, I had fun with the last one even if it was the worst of the middle earth films 😀
