300: Rise of an Empire (Trailer #1) Review
300 might not have been everyone’s cup of tea but as a blood thirty male I found great joy in watching the sword and sandal mayhem. I had my doubts about the plot of this one and how they could make a sequel but after some research I actually really like the idea behind this film. Now onto the trailer and boom! We get battles, 6 packs, horse riding, boat crashing and oceans of Greek/Persian blood. The boats interest me because very rarely do you ever see ancient naval warfare and Athenians where famous for their navy, just hope somebody says Ramming Speed! And gets those drums going. In conclusion trailer good, Tim want more and yet now I must wait until 2014, such horrible thing to do teasing me with a trailer! Hope you enjoy the trailer and stills I managed to grab. Comment and like at the end please.

My Score: B
Release date: 7th March 2014
Plot:
Based on Frank Miller’s latest graphic novel Xerxes, and told in the breathtaking visual style of the blockbuster “300,” this new chapter of the epic saga takes the action to a fresh battlefield—on the sea—as Greek general Themistokles attempts to unite all of Greece by leading the charge that will change the course of the war.”300: Rise of an Empire” pits Themistokles against the massive invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes, and Artemisia, vengeful commander of the Persian navy.

Top 10 Scenes
10. Xerxes
“So Xerxes how did the invasion go?” “Not. Great.” Mwahahaha. I haven’t really got anything to say about this still but its straight after the finale of 300 and I am quite happy with the look on his face.

9. Make it Nice and Sharp
There are a great couple of scenes as the Greeks begin war preparations with ship building and sharpening of the sword. After all they have to be ready to slaughter all the Persians they can (Is this film racist? Probably) Glorious battles a wait!
–
8. Persian Empire
“What are you all doing here?! You should be on the damn ships killing Greeks!” The Persian city looks pretty nice too bad all those people below will probably burn considering the direction the trailer shows us.
–
7. Ready for Battle
Looking at this shot you may notice the differences between the soldiers in this film and the soldiers from 300, noticeably the helmets and shields. Well that’s because these men are Athenians who led the naval assault on the Persians.
–
6. Death from Above
Very cool shot, we giant leaps, swords in heads, unique helmets and what looks very similar to a kilt. So much green screen its shocking this scene is as dark as it is. (Quoting Space Marines with the title)
–
5. Eva Green as Artemisia
Artemisia is probably one of the first women in history to lead military forces; we’re talking 2500 years ago, that’s insane! Eva Green should be an interesting choice in the role and she looks pretty bad ass in this scene. Also notice the less monstrous appearance of the Persians, probably response to complaints which is fair.
–
4. Slow Motion Kick
Very reminiscent of the famous scene where Leonidas kicks the messengers into the well, beautiful slow motion with kick ass power to it, on a serious note can anyone actually kick a grown man up in the air and into a wall that hard?
–
3. Epic Pose
6 packs galore, standing above the camera and the lights shines through. Looks great but it’s just that 300 style of shot, am going to be counting how many of these shots we see in the film next and I bet it’s above 6.

2. Ramming Speed!
Yeah! Ramming speed, that’s just what I asked for in this trailer. Damn that looks cool and is essential all the ships did back then, we can look forward to plenty of this in the film and lots on board sword fighting.

1. THE EPICNESS!!!
Just look at it! He jumps off a flaming ship, knocking out an Immortal, diving into the water and then jumping onto another ship to kill more people. It looks glorious and I cannot wait to see the battles in this film. Comment on how amazing this is.

New Poster
Well that’s my views. Now what do you think about this newest trailer?
I was feeling a little “iffy” about a sequel to 300. I mean it ended so perfectly, but after seeing the trailer I’m a tad more excited, I’ll wait until the movie comes out to pass final judgement but the trailer definitely got me into the theater.

I’ve only just seen the trailer via your blog yo haha, I’m so late lol. No but let’s talk about the trailer. Honestly it looks alright but I’m still not overly hyped for the film. 300 was a film that I really liked back when it first came out, but after watching it again a few years after I wasn’t as keen on it. I think the novelty of the film has warn off due to time and the endless amount of references and parodies. I’ll probably watch this film just because it looks interesting and I enjoy violence haha.

I can’t believe Kate Beckinsale didn’t get the role of Artemisia. Doesn’t she get all the butt-kicking brunette roles?
I love that you review trailers, by the way. Cool feature of your blog. I’m looking forward to this, just hope it is somewhere near as good as 300.

Well she can’t play all of them and the last couple were just terrible 😦
Glad you like the trailer feature, hopefully with the same team involved it will keep the same style and fun of the first film 😀
Favourite still?

Hmmmm. Maybe number ten. Just for the fact there there is almost no color differentiation yet there is such contrast and detail.

Haha that is the style of these films, very similar to the graphic novel 😀

Since it is based on a Frank Miller graphic novel and filmed by Snyder I am interested in checking this one out.

Who’s the lead? Surprised they didn’t get a big name. (Vin Diesel or Chris Hemsworth would have been my choice – or maybe Manu Bennett from Spartacus and Arrow)

Sullivan Stapleton playing Themistocles who was credited with saving the western world. I think it was smart bringing in an unknown because that’s what they did with 300, Gerard Butler was unknown before 300 😀
