No One Lives (2012) Review

This horror film is terrible but also a lot of fun! No One Lives nearly delivers on its name as well in that 90% of the people in the film die, which is a nice change of pace from the last couple of horror films I saw with zero fatalities. The premise behind this film is great, love the idea and I would like a really well done version but this is pure entertaining horror so am fine with it. The acting is mostly terrible but Luke Evans clearly had a blast. The violence is way up there and the dialogue sometime funny both intentionally and unintentional had me in stitches. I’ll go into much more detail below but for now bookmark this if you are waiting to see the film, leave any comments below, I look forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts. There will be spoilers.

Plot:

A ruthless criminal gang takes a young couple hostage and goes to ground in an abandoned house in the middle of nowhere. When the captive girl is killed, the tables are unexpectedly turned. The gang finds itself outsmarted by an urbane and seasoned killer determined to ensure that no one lives.

I quite like the idea of a tough gang thinking they are the top of the food chain only to stumble onto a super duper serial killer. Again I would like this done really well but for now I will accept this fun horror flick. The acting is atrocious, every member of the gang where the worst actors you could find and the rest where clearly just taking it so seriously that I couldn’t stop laughing. Not sure what you should be expecting from WWE Studios but here we are. Whilst no other character was all that interesting I did like the know named serial killer and his interesting choosing method for girlfriends (watch it and know) which is still a better love story than Twilight. Not much in the way of dialogue although the part where Luke Evans character stands over one of his victims and she ask why? And he simply replies “It keeps me fit”, and scythe through the back! Laughed quite a bit at that line.

The film is far from scary but it is so bloody and violent that it gets points from me. And if you like so so made horror films then this is for you. As an example of bloody violence, Luke Evans’ character actually hides inside one of his victims to get inside the gangs home, you see the body bag twitch and you know what’s going to happen but it’s still pretty weird seeing Luke Evans covered in blood climbing out of a dead fat guy. I cannot think of any flaws with the visuals, looked pretty good and wow they did not hide anything from the camera!

The best reviews I found would be these:

“Imagine if Reservoir Dogs’ Mr Blonde hooked up with Hannibal Lecter and they went for dinner with the nutter from Wolf Creek.” Total Film. Full Review

“Loopy, film-literate and full-bore, it’s a sadistic ’70s thriller in modern-day garb.” Indeed, Empire Magazine. Full Review

“A survival story, pure and simple, the characterisation is non-existent and the blood flows in rivers. It’ll appeal to the gorehounds with a sense of humour.” The List. Full Review

“The filmmaker fashions an experience where nothing is what it seems, where the first 25 minutes or so see more twists and turns than in a dozen derivative fright flicks.” Pop Matters. Full Review

My favourite scene would have to be either that fun fight scene near the end or when he fights gets to the gangs cabin and starts killing loads of them with no mercy. Good fun guys.

I didn’t bother with this one. It seems that there should be a spot reserved for this on Netflix.

Don’t you just hate when movies have “zero fatalities”? 😉 Good review but I’ll probably skip this one. Considering that you give such high ratings usually, you’ve scared me with 44%! Lol
