Box Office Predictions (16-18th Aug)
Kick-Ass 2, Jobs, The Butler, Paranoia…four wide releases on the same weekend again! Going to see kick Ass 2 tomorrow and I am really looking forward to it, couldn’t care less about the other film, but I hope anyone going to see them enjoy it. Don’t look for any big winners this weekend because the summer blockbuster season has ended. Go watch some movies!
Returning Films
Can’t forget about are returning films as well. Elysium didn’t do great; the actual total was under $30M which is bad and so won’t be making its budget back. We’re the Millers did excellent for an R rated comedy and as the week went on this film actually beat Elysium. Planes made more money than it should have. AHAHAHA and Percy Jackson made so little it brought tears to my eyes.

New Films
Kick-Ass 2
Plot:
His heroic antics having inspired a citywide wave of masked vigilantes, Kick-Ass (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) joins their ranks to help clean up the streets, only to face a formidable challenge when the vengeful Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) transforms himself into the world’s first super villain in this sequel written and directed by Jeff Wadlow.
Analysis:
I being a nerd want to see it but the first film didn’t make much at all and its fan base was pretty small. A lot of people saw it on DVD release though, and the film has some new star power even if Jim Carey doesn’t endorse it people want to see him in an extremely violent film. I am looking forward to it but I don’t see doing great. I think $22M will be doable.

Jobs
Plot:
It only takes one person to start a revolution. The extraordinary story of Steve Jobs, the original innovator and ground-breaking entrepreneur who let nothing stand in the way of greatness. The film tells the epic and turbulent story of Jobs as he blazed a trail that changed technology — and the world – forever.
Analysis:
I don’t get why so many people think this looks good. It looks like a glossy TV movie about a man with a great deal of problems which it will never touch on. I know my computer history and I saw this films trailer and saw bullshit from start to end. The reviews are terrible and there isn’t a great deal of public interest according tracking so look for $8M.

I’m gonna buck the trend and say The Butler barely edges out Kick Ass 2. It plays to a lot of audiences and I think people are getting a bit tired of less than stellar action/hero flicks this year. Just a hunch. I think you’re right on with Paranoia and Jobs though. Bottom-feeders.

I think Planes, although the recipient of critical jeers prior to its release might surprise at the box office. Never underestimate the power of little kids being brought to the theatre by their parents during the summer lol.
