Box Office Predictions (23-25th Aug) Results
This weekend did not go as I predicted at all, a lot of shocking numbers, but mostly low. Returning films did very well but most of the new releases bombed. Or did they? Go watch some movies!
Returning Films
The Butler won AGAIN barely dropping 30% to bring in $17. Kick-Ass 2 on the other hand dropped a whopping 68% to $4M. Jobs and Paranoia dropped out of the top ten in their second week as I predicted.

New Films
You’re Next
Analysis:
Compared to other horror films this summer you could say this film bombed but I think its budget is really tiny so it’s probably already in the black with this weekend’s haul. I think for an essential indie film making over $7M in one weekend is good business. And the film has Isaacs’s approval so that’s good enough for me.

The Mortal Instruments
Analysis:
I was actually pretty spot on with this film. I am afraid the film suffered from an overcrowded genre at this current time, not my cup of tea but my cousin really likes the books and is going to see it soon. I said $9M and it made $9.3M.

The World’s End
Analysis:
Again I made a pretty damn good prediction. With only 1000 screens making $8.9M isn’t too bad, they may even expand to more screens in the coming week.

Well that’s my views. Now what do you think about this weekend and its new releases?
Good job with the predicting, boggles the mind to even think about doing that. Surprised The Butler is so strong, looks good, but it doesn’t look like a box office leader.

Thank you, got pretty lucky this weekend 😀
The Butler is winning because its one of few adult oriented films around. And everything else is not attracting anyone to the cinema 😦

Some pretty solid predictions there, Tim. I still don’t dare trying to guess. I like, though, coming over here and seeing just how close you come! It’s harder, I think, in the “off-season” of films so, good job this week to you.

Yeah am amazing 😀
You should make the predictions anyway, its fun. Am only doing them intermittently after summer. Mainly because I am going to University soon and the films are less interesting 😀

It goes to show you – You’re Next made a modest amount, but thanks to a small budget it is a profit, whereas the blockbusters that do amazingly well still lose money. I have nothing against big summer movies, but I think we should promote Indie films as well.

I think the budget have exploded for big films and then they make more than they used to. Each studio used to have 1 big film for the year but now they each have 5 over $200M budget 😦
