Winter TV 2013/2014 Part 1 Review

Winter is going to be here for a while apparently and whether your drowning in floods or freezing snow, the TV has got your back as you cosy up to a fire. So with the TV shows coming back from their break, returning shows and because every season has a bunch of new show I get to be judgmental year round Mwahahaha! The way I am reviewing them is based off the shows first three episodes because that’s how long I watch a show before I decide to keep watching a new show or drop it like led brick. So here come my views, if you think there is a show I am not watching that I should please bring it up because I am always looking for suggestions.

Justified (Season 5) Ep 1-3

Justified is a brilliant TV show and so far the series has got me hooked again, might not be as focused as previous seasons but the dialogue and characters are as brilliant as always. They have introduced some new characters and even had a guest recently who played an assassin, played by Alan Tudyk who has range. Raylan Givens is such a badass character and Timothy Olyphant nails it in the role. Anybody who has seen the show knows this badass line “Next One’s Commin’ Faster!”

Workaholics (Season 4) Ep 1-3

I shouldn’t like this show but I really do. Only started watching this series this year and have caught and have really enjoyed it. The new season seems to have continued this trend of college frat idiots doing ridiculously stupid things. “Orgazmo Birth” the first episode of season 4 is so off the walls most people probably couldn’t watch it without crindging but its so funny if you can take it.

Archer (Season 5) Ep 1-3

I love this series! And it never disappoints when I watch it, making it a very rare series. Now in its fifth season Archer has become a cult classic and has a considerable following, and spawning many online meme’s and quotes. This season they have moved away from the secret spy game and into drug dealing and whilst I am not sure how this change is going to work it’s still making me laugh which proves as long as you have material, a good cast and great dialogue nothing else matters.

Community (Season 5) Ep 1-3

Dan Harmon the man who turned Betty White into the best Anthropology teacher in the world “Great now I’ll use this weapon to attack you and you use respect to defend yourself” Haha, well he’s back and the episodes have been great so far. The repiloting of the series was done brilliantly and the idea of the whole gang having to come back and Jeff becoming a teacher has injected new plot lines and future story ideas for further hilarity. Jonathan Banks who is essentially playing the same character from Breaking Bad is now replacing Chevy Chase as the older person in the gang, wasn’t sure about the idea but he is really funny it. After seeing episode ‘Geothermal Escapism’ we know he’s a good sport and I am looking forward to his character inclusion. Also the ratings have been up and season 6 has been confirmed. #6SeasonsAndaMovie.

Helix (Season 1) Ep 1-3

This is a series I was looking forward to and the idea is so rich in potential. However I fear they have dropped the ball somewhat, it’s still enjoyable but it could be so much more and still could be. The first couple of episodes are good and the horror aspects are interesting but it’s starting to really fall into a ‘Lost’ style mystery, which I couldn’t give a toss about, if I get episode after episode with 3 questions to every answer I will just leave this.

Space Dandy (Season 1) Ep 1-3

I freaking love Japan, thank you for this new gem guys. This one is being released both in English and Japanese at the same time which I totally support and recommend you check out. The story is crazy nonsense and the characters are more so, I honestly am having so much fun watching Dandy flying around this richly built universe. The team behind it are of a strong pedigree as well having created Soul Eater, Full Metal Alchemist, and Cowboy Bebop anime series. I may start reviewing Anime series, so look out for them.

Rick and Morty (Season 1) Ep 1-3

This series is ‘Back to the Future’ on crack. That’s all you really need to know, if that sounds like fun (it is) then this is for you. Rick is a mentally-unbalanced but scientifically-gifted old man who has recently reconnected with his family. He spends most of his time involving his young grandson Morty in dangerous, outlandish adventures throughout space and time. I am so impressed with this and it makes me laugh every time I watch an episode. Dan Harmon Strikes again!

Black Sails (Season 1) Ep 1-3

Starz the channel that brought us the fantastic Spartacus has finally come out with something to fill void left by the series end. Their answer is Black Sails a new take on the Golden Age of Piracy (the serious kind) with a big budget and some pretty talented cast members to fill the ranks of Captain and crew. The visuals have been great so far and I just hope they return to the seas soon because I need more of my fix which I got after the first episode raid.
