Have You Ever Liked a Film in a Genre You Normally Hate?

Another random question that popped into my mind recently as I watched a film I’ll being reviewing this week. Now I find that if a friend or family member makes me watch something because they believe it to be excellent that I will give it a go eventually, against my natural pessimistic view of genres I normally avoid (If you don’t remember genres I don’t like click here). If I do like it more likely than not it is a film so excellent that it transcends all genres. A rarity but I absolutely love it when I find one. So I ask the question Have You Ever Liked a Film in a Genre You Normally Hate? Mine is after the break.

The movie I was watching recently that brought on the question was an Anime film called Wolf Children. I had been recommended to watch from quite a few places, a few of you reviewed it and I’ve had friends say it’s really excellent. But it’s a little on the sappy side based on the simple description given, also if you look at the cover you’ll see why I hesitated (Yes. I literally judged it by its cover!). Anyway turned out to be an amazingly beautiful film, look out for my review.

Anyway other films I have felt the same way about would be Shawshank Redemption, Green Mile, Cool Runnings, The Pianist, Schindler’s List. Hell I’ve regretted my hesitation so many times its ridiculous. I’ll still hesitate in the future though. Right now it’s your turn! Give me some answers. I expect to hear some Rom-Com’s that you actually give a thumps up to instead of a middle finger.
