Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) Mini Review

Balls to the wall high octane edge of your seat relentless action death racing in a post-apocalyptic waste land. Well done George Miller. Not sure how you achieved this glorious level of action at 70 years of age or after directing three cheesy kids films. Glad you did though because this might be my favourite action film for at least 5 years. If it was done in this film it was done with perfection. I’ll go into more detail below but give it a try, got trailers and images below. Check it all out and give me a like and a comment at the end.

“As the world fell, each of us in our own way was broken. It was hard to know who was more crazy. Me… or everyone else.”

Plot:

In a stark desert landscape where humanity is broken, two rebels just might be able to restore order: Max, a man of action and of few words, and Furiosa, a woman of action who is looking to make it back to her childhood homeland.

The story is simplistic and this is in no way a bad thing, in fact it maybe its biggest strength. The film could easily turn out be a classic because it requires nothing of the audience. The world doesn’t need to be explained, you can see it. The characters don’t need to be developed, you get them. That being said all the actors played their parts, sane or insane. And a special shout out to stunt crew for this film, well over 150 stunt men and women. How none of them died doing these stunts defies me.

The action in this film was spectacular. 90% practical effects. The visuals are flawless, only a hand full of CGI moments, and only when necessary. The war rigs never stopped. It was an endless fight and struggle of survival in a truly hellish world. The choreography of the action is also amazing, especially considering the vast variety locations, weapons and it all happens on cars travelling 70 mph. And lastly the designs of everything were great, the costumes, the cars and the incredible diverse forms of weapons designed for this film. I’d quite like a spear bomb.

Trailer:

Spoilers!

My Favourite scene would have to be the insane chase/battle at the end of film. Guys swinging on poles, guitar flamethrower guy, bullets, fire and burning petroleum.

I rarely give any film a full 5/5 but this film is darn near perfect so I have no qualms about you giving it 100%, Tim! Can’t wait to rewatch this one again, preferably in a theater w/ Dolby Atmos! 🙂

I finally saw the movie today and I really hate to tell you this but I didn’t like it. I know you loved it but I’m probably in the minority of disliking it.

I finally got the opportunity to watch the movie last night and I must agree with you it was fun. You’re right it didn’t require anything from the audience…just sit back and enjoy! I also liked the simplicity of the plot and characters. There was no over-analysis needed. The action rarely stopped. Really cool movie.

I’ve got a feeling this film is going to be hanging around in the charts for weeks. Films that deliver such a clear singular vision stand out from the Marvel clones (I enjoy the Marvel films before the fan boys come for my blood) and when executed well go down really well with audiences. NOTE TO STUDIOS – THESE FILMS DO MAKE MONEY

Am sure it will have staying power. Excellent reviews always do. Its also very rewatchable.

The only thing holding this one back in terms of profitability is its monstrous budget. After marketing its around $200M 😦

Still its already closing in on break even point. Doing very well internationally 😀

I loved everything about Fury Road and I’m glad you did too! I was giddy with excitement as I was watching it. It totally lived up the hype, it delivered exactly what the trailer showed … for 2 hours plus. 😀

Its just so much fun. I’ve seen it twice. Didn’t review it at first because my review was weirdly glowing. But it would take very little convincing to go see it again 😀

Have fun with it. Try and figure out the difference between the stunt crew and the dummies used. I think people died making this.

My favourite scene would have to be the bit with the car chas… oh wait, that was the only scene! I guess that means there were no bad scenes. Thumbs up to Mad Max!
