Movie News Report: Aquaman’s new look and Spider-Man Returns Home

I am trying something new. This one will be a rough draft, need criticism. Do tell me if it is crap or makes no sense.

This will be an end of the week wrap up of what has happened in the geeky world of movies. Decided to do this about an hour before I wrote it so am just going off memory. Fill in the gaps in the comments, I know I missed something.

Also I’ll include some movie features I liked from the blogosphere. I follow a lot of nerds!

10 Most Anticipated Films of 2015

This is my list of the most anticipated films released in the year 2015, wow this year, crept up quick. I have a skewed view towards the genres of Sci-fi and Action, so don’t expect indie or drama, I will watch them but at the moment I just don’t care. If you notice any films that you want to see more than anything then this could mean one of two things, either I disagree or I simply forgot it was coming out. If so I would love to know if I am missing any. Also there will be a box office prediction for each film; you guys know how much I like predictions. Upcoming reviews are all 2014 film, first The Guest then The Interview, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Nightcrawler and The Babadook. Also still need to see The Hobbit Battle of The Five Armies and Hunger Games Mocking Jay Part 1.

Wer (2014) Mini Review

Here comes another mini review, this time an indie horror film is in my target, also related to werewolves. The film is currently out on VOD, it’s a kind of found footage horror film. But it does have a lot of none found footage scenes. On a none review topic boy does that werewolf guy look like Sébastien Chabal or as he’s nicknamed ‘The Cave Man’ in French Rugby.

I’ll go into much more detail below but give it a try, got trailers and images below. Check it all out and give me a like and a comment at the end.

Have You Ever Liked a Film in a Genre You Normally Hate?

Another random question that popped into my mind recently as I watched a film I’ll being reviewing this week. Now I find that if a friend or family member makes me watch something because they believe it to be excellent that I will give it a go eventually, against my natural pessimistic view of genres I normally avoid (If you don’t remember genres I don’t like click here). If I do like it more likely than not it is a film so excellent that it transcends all genres. A rarity but I absolutely love it when I find one. So I ask the question Have You Ever Liked a Film in a Genre You Normally Hate? Mine is after the break.

Most Anticipated Horror Films Of Summer 2014

This is my list of the most anticipated horror films released or to be released in the summer of 2014. This one may come a bit late because it is already June by now. However most on the list may be difficult to watch at first and so this list could still be used to advice you on what good horror films are coming out. I will warn you that I have come to hate haunted house films so don’t expect any on this list. Oh and horror films have very sporadic release dates so I will just be sticking to US release dates.

Update on the voting posts. I have finished the first two ‘The Good Points To Films I Hate’ and ‘A Comic Nerdy Opinion Post’ this is obviously done as well and the next two ‘A New Top Ten List’ and ‘Some Kind of Anime Post’ will be finished over the next two weeks.

What Would You Like More Of In Films?

Well the last question I asked was extremely popular. So like film studios am rolling out the sequel as quick as possible. I’ll probably need to clarify what this question is asking. I want to know if there is something in movies that they used to have or that they have never really tried that you would like to see more of in future films. Think outside the box. I really want some opinions on this one because we all wish that the thing we really like should be made more mainstream or popular. And in films they can make anything so why don’t they. Mine is after the break.

Han Shot First

For me I want more space battles and antihero’s. When was the last time you saw a good space battle, most sci fi films set in other places are avoiding space battles or any real space exploration nowadays and I don’t know why. Even Star Trek Into Darkness didn’t have much, the was more in a episode from the original series than that film. I quite liked The one from Revenge of the Sith, you know the one right at the beginning. One a few good things to come from the prequels.

As for the antihero’s, well they are extremely rare. An by antihero I mean a Han Solo,  a Hell Boy and to a somewhat more extreme area a Judge Dredd. Hopefully Guardians of the Galaxy and the new Star Wars films will solve both of them but am still waiting. But now I want to know your answers so sign off in the comments.

What Movie Genre Do You Avoid The Most?

I don’t normal ask questions but when looking up some new films recently I did something I think most of us do. I skipped some films based purely on the Genres, I know its wrong and that every genre of film has brilliant material to offer but I still avoid some. So I ask the question what genre of film do avoid the most? Not which do you hate but which do see and instinctively say “nah i’ll pass”. Mine is after the break.

Check out the winner and the exact details on what they will be after the break.

Godzilla (2014) Review

Godzilla is a disaster film that also features Godzilla, this is both a strength and a weakness of the film. I liked the tone and serious nature of the film and how it portrayed the title monster but it had problems. The human element was strong to start with but quickly became bland and lifeless. The story whilst for the most was fresh in its delivery did at times revisit monster franchises that it clearly wanted to be and came very close. The visuals are great and from the creature designs to the environment everything looked real, if this happened this is how it would look. Gareth Edwards clearly has talent and for a first big budget outing he has accomplished a really entertaining film. I look forward to his future work. I’ll go into much more detail below but for now bookmark this if you are waiting to see the film, leave any comments below, if you have seen the film then check out the spoiler sections and I will look forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts.

“The arrogance of men is thinking nature is in their control and not the other way around. Let them fight.” – ‘Let Them Fight’ should have been the title.

Godzilla (Trailer #2) Review

Wow okay I am totally on-board now, I was a little on the fence about this project but I am in, by all means bring me the King of Monsters! I didn’t review the first trailer because I viewed it more as a teaser, this however is the real deal. Cranston’s dialogue is great in the opening and the visuals are looking really sharp, dark and very real. That last shot of what I presume is Godzilla looked great, but more on that later. The themes and sound effects also very impressive. Enjoy the review and please tell me your initial reactions to this new trailer, more so if you disagree.
