Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) Review

Just saw Apes last night and yes I know it’s late but wow was this film worth the wait. Never thought Apes of horses would be my favourite film of the year but that’s where we are, got to love the movies! The acting is solid, the script plays with the plot brilliantly, you like and route for the characters both ape and human, the action is fast paced and visuals are unbelievable, those apes are 100% CGI. What really sets this film apart from the majority of films is the unrelentingly serious nature they apply to the material. The story explores so many aspects to human nature that its just fascinating to think about. I’ll go into much more detail below but for now bookmark this if you are waiting to see the film, leave any comments below, if you have seen the film then check out the spoiler sections and I will look forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts.

Most Anticipated Horror Films Of Summer 2014

This is my list of the most anticipated horror films released or to be released in the summer of 2014. This one may come a bit late because it is already June by now. However most on the list may be difficult to watch at first and so this list could still be used to advice you on what good horror films are coming out. I will warn you that I have come to hate haunted house films so don’t expect any on this list. Oh and horror films have very sporadic release dates so I will just be sticking to US release dates.

Update on the voting posts. I have finished the first two ‘The Good Points To Films I Hate’ and ‘A Comic Nerdy Opinion Post’ this is obviously done as well and the next two ‘A New Top Ten List’ and ‘Some Kind of Anime Post’ will be finished over the next two weeks.

Edge of Tomorrow (2014) Review (Or as I prefer ‘All You Need Is Kill’)

Edge of Tomorrow is believe it or not an original, funny and great science fiction film. The acting is solid, the script plays with the plot brilliantly, you like and route for the characters, the action is fast paced and visuals are almost flawless. Wasn’t expecting this to be one of my favourite films of the year but so far it’s up there. Don’t trust the trailers or that new terrible title, just go out and see the film it is really good. If you ever thought what would a hybrid film made from Groundhog Day and Aliens be like? And thought yeah I’d watch that then this is for you. It’s even got Bill Paxon. I’ll go into much more detail below but for now bookmark this if you are waiting to see the film, leave any comments below, if you have seen the film then check out the spoiler sections and I will look forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (Trailer #2) Review

I know this review is a bit late but this had to be reviewed because it looks amazing. I didn’t review the first trailer because I viewed it more as a teaser, this however is the real deal. Wow I mean who thought an apes film could be made this seriously, I mean this looks brilliant. Andy Serkis is bringing Ceaser to life and giving him real presence. The cast looks strong and the plot sounds fascinating. The themes and music also impress me. I cannot wait for this film, its easily one of my most anticipated of the year. Enjoy the review and please tell me your initial reactions to this new trailer, more so if you disagree.

Godzilla (2014) Review

Godzilla is a disaster film that also features Godzilla, this is both a strength and a weakness of the film. I liked the tone and serious nature of the film and how it portrayed the title monster but it had problems. The human element was strong to start with but quickly became bland and lifeless. The story whilst for the most was fresh in its delivery did at times revisit monster franchises that it clearly wanted to be and came very close. The visuals are great and from the creature designs to the environment everything looked real, if this happened this is how it would look. Gareth Edwards clearly has talent and for a first big budget outing he has accomplished a really entertaining film. I look forward to his future work. I’ll go into much more detail below but for now bookmark this if you are waiting to see the film, leave any comments below, if you have seen the film then check out the spoiler sections and I will look forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts.

“The arrogance of men is thinking nature is in their control and not the other way around. Let them fight.” – ‘Let Them Fight’ should have been the title.

Godzilla (Trailer #2) Review

Wow okay I am totally on-board now, I was a little on the fence about this project but I am in, by all means bring me the King of Monsters! I didn’t review the first trailer because I viewed it more as a teaser, this however is the real deal. Cranston’s dialogue is great in the opening and the visuals are looking really sharp, dark and very real. That last shot of what I presume is Godzilla looked great, but more on that later. The themes and sound effects also very impressive. Enjoy the review and please tell me your initial reactions to this new trailer, more so if you disagree.

Winter TV 2013/2014 Part 1 Review

Winter is going to be here for a while apparently and whether your drowning in floods or freezing snow, the TV has got your back as you cosy up to a fire. So with the TV shows coming back from their break, returning shows and because every season has a bunch of new show I get to be judgmental year round Mwahahaha! The way I am reviewing them is based off the shows first three episodes because that’s how long I watch a show before I decide to keep watching a new show or drop it like led brick. So here come my views, if you think there is a show I am not watching that I should please bring it up because I am always looking for suggestions.

Ender’s Game (2013) Review

Damn trailers, made me think this was rubbish and missed it in theatres. From the trailers I thought this was going to be some action film with tweens (barf) but it was much closer to what I heard of the book, psychological with lots of links to child armies and how wars can be justified from different viewpoints. The acting was good, the visuals where good. The characters are very interesting, and considering the age of the cast it’s rather impressive. If you are a fan of the book (never read it) or an avid history buff then watching this will be interesting, it’s also a very good view of war in general. I’ll go into much more detail below but for now bookmark this if you are waiting to see the film, if you have seen the film then check out the spoiler sections and I will look forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts.

“After you had already won, why did you continue to hit him? Did you enjoy it?”

“Knocking him down was the first fight, I wanted to win all the others. So they’d leave me alone.” My favourite quote is in the spoiler section.

Open Grave (2013) Review

Open Grave is a compete mystery. The whole way through this film I had my brain on override to figure what the hell was going on, normally in horror films especially I get what’s happening and I have a good guess how it will end. This though, no idea until it revealed what was happening at the end. So to summarise it’s a horror film with a lot suspense and clues so small/scattered that it will keep you guessing until the end. Really hard to review this without spoilers so preper for a lot of them. I’ll go into much more detail below but for now bookmark this if you are waiting to see the film, leave any comments below, and I will look forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts.

Tim’s Top Ten Films of 2013

This is my list of the Top Ten Films released in the year 2013. I have reviewed each one of them or a review is pending and consider them to be all worthy of their position. If you notice any films that you loved and that are not on the list then this could mean one of two things, either I disagree or I simply didn’t see it (there’s a lot of those). I will also be releasing my worst films of the year and what I thought were the best/worst sci-fi films of the year. Lastly I will post my most anticipated films of this current year 2014, ohhh exciting.
