Movie News Report: He Lived Long and Prospered
Encase anyone was wondering I am still doing reviews but haven’t seen any new films recently and the new trailers have been poo. I will be watching and reviewing Chappie next week.
This is an end of the week wrap up of what has happened in the geeky world of movies. I took better notes this time so I have a more complete list of things that have happened. Sadly nothing of much note has happened in the world of movies. So this post is a bit more random. And of course the devastating news that Leonard Nimoy has passed away.
Also I’ll include some movie features I liked from the blogosphere. I follow a lot of nerds!
The Opinions Are In & The Vote Is Finished
I needed you to vote for my next feature post and you did, more than I expected. I do have some other posts in the timeline such as the Guardians of the Galaxy trailer #2 review and the X-Men Days of Future Past film review. However the first feature post will be coming out next Friday. I didn’t mention this in the last post but all of the feature posts will be done but the order will be by the most votes. Check out the winner and the exact details on what they will be after the break.
Justice League: War (2014) Review
Didn’t think a DC animated film would be the first film of 2014 I would review but here we are. I got to admit this film is pretty great. Its action packed, funny, got a great voice cast, the story whilst simple works pretty well to assemble a Justice League and it’s filled with pretty good pop culture references. The visuals in this are great, with fights, powers and character designs all looking pretty cool. The characters are done brilliantly from Batman to Wonder Woman, the voicing and characters development is small if any but the establishment of who these characters where was done really well, you just get them. The film is out for VOD so I recommend checking it out.
Batman: “You bruise but you don’t kill do you…Clark?”
Superman: “You’ve made your point. Ha Bruce Wayne.”
Green Lantern: “Who the hell is Bruce Wayne?”
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns (2013) Review
This is how you make a batman film! Fanatically close to its source material, filled with classic DC dark noir styles and a fantastic voice cast. I have always loved the Batman stories and this one is based off a favourite arc of mine, The Dark Knight Returns. Christopher Nolan actually based some of the stories in The Dark Knight Rises of this arc and you can clearly see the influence, Nolan picked well. The visuals in this are great, with fights and brutal the scenes can get, this one really doesn’t hide from the violence and blood. The characters are done brilliantly from Batman to The Joker, the voicing and characters development is some of the strongest I have seen in most live action films. The films are split in two and are both available to rent or buy.
Batman: “No, Joker. You’re playing the wrong game. The old game. Tonight you’re taking no hostages. Tonight I’m taking no prisoners.”
The Dark Knight Rises (2012) Review
‘Christopher Nolan’ really doesn’t make bad films. ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ was a great film to end the epic trilogy Nolan started with Batman Begins and then made better with ‘The Dark Knight’. This film really brings the old school epics such as ‘Ben-Hur’ with thousands of extras running around on giant sets to the modern era of films. But sadly it was the last of this superhero trilogy and possibly the best adaptation of a comic hero we will ever see.
