The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) Mini Review
This was fun, I really like watching Wes Anderson films because they take you to another world. He does that with all his films. The Grand Budapest Hotel should be out on DVD and VOD at the moment, it’s a fantastically quirky story about the hotels devoted concierge and his young apprentice lobby boy. The film is really fun and the all-star cast is stellar especially Ralph Fiennes, well done that man.
I’ll go into more detail below but give it a try, got trailers and images below. Check it all out and give me a like and a comment at the end.
Wer (2014) Mini Review
Here comes another mini review, this time an indie horror film is in my target, also related to werewolves. The film is currently out on VOD, it’s a kind of found footage horror film. But it does have a lot of none found footage scenes. On a none review topic boy does that werewolf guy look like Sébastien Chabal or as he’s nicknamed ‘The Cave Man’ in French Rugby.

Wolf Children (2013) & The Garden of Words (2013) Mini Review
This week am going to start writing mini reviews for indie/drama films because one I don’t have all the time in the world to write my normal 1000+ word reviews and two because I tend to struggle writing reviews for indie films. That being said I probably could go on a while about these two because they are two excellent animated films from Japan. I know most of my readers probably don’t see all that many anime films or anything foreign or subtitled. So with that in mind I have picked two that are in English language (Excellent Dubs).
I’ll go into much more detail below but please give them a try, got trailers and images below. Check it all out and give me a like and a comment at the end.
Jack the Giant Slayer (2013) Review
It’s not bad, it’s good but nothing more and if that’s okay with you then yeah it’s a fun movie to watch and the kids will love it. The story is alright as well as the cast and dialogue, some moments even made me laugh on purpose. The visuals are good and I had fun with it. My only problems come with Bryan Singer and his relentless path to making good films but nothing more and am not sure if it’s because he isn’t a great director or he’s just unlucky but not one of his films has ever blew me away, there just alright. Oh crap he’s going to do the same to days of futures past.
“I may not be the hero of this story, but at least I get to see the end of it!”
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012) Review
I liked it, not my favourite middle earth installment but a good addition nevertheless. Jackson has at least two more films to bring out greatness from Tolkien’s work so we’ll just have to hope he maintains the pace or does better. It’s really hard not to nerd out when watching these films, by the way I have read the book and I think Peter Jackson did well so far, still haven’t seen Smaug but that’s the next film (I saw its shadow, tail and eye). Loved the dwarfs, normally they are my favourite characters and continue to be in this installment I also loved the music and would have given it a perfect score if it had more songs and musical scores, but there are more film for that and you have to view as a platform for what’s to come. In terms of visuals, they were really good, some areas better than others but I will go into that later on. Not sure if this is relevant but I saw the film in IMAX 3D without 48fps, some people hated others didn’t mind but I don’t have any experience with it so I’ll leave that for others to discuss.
Gandalf: What do you mean? Do you wish me a good morning, or mean that it is a good morning whether I want it or not; or that you feel good this morning; or that it is a morning to be good on?
Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog (Mini Series) Review
Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog is a 2008 musical tragicomedy miniseries in three acts, directed by Joss Whedon and produced exclusively for Internet distribution. The musical is really quite good and I liked the story as well, not much of a musical loving guy but I don’t mind the odd one that I appreciate and a comedic take on super villains can’t really be missed. The series came out over 4 years ago but I only saw it recently and so I will not be presenting many spoilers and any I am will have a bold warning. The visuals weren’t that bad considering the lack of any real budget and that nobody got paid for this until about a year after it was made. I found the cast to be fantastic and got the comedic take on the superheroes and villains rather well, so I will say well done to Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Fillion, Felicia Day and Simon Helberg. I am a fan of their work and as they did this for free I am happy they have all gone unto other successful projects.
