The Guest (2014) Mini Review

Here comes my mini review, much easier doing these. The Guest is currently out on VOD, it’s a really good 80’s thriller film but was made this year, and I love it. Adam Wingard the director of this film is definitely on a roll. I am two for two on his films. You’re Next and now this little gem. I will be looking out for your future films.

I’ll go into more detail below but give it a try, got trailers and images below. Check it all out and give me a like and a comment at the end.

Wer (2014) Mini Review

Here comes another mini review, this time an indie horror film is in my target, also related to werewolves. The film is currently out on VOD, it’s a kind of found footage horror film. But it does have a lot of none found footage scenes. On a none review topic boy does that werewolf guy look like Sébastien Chabal or as he’s nicknamed ‘The Cave Man’ in French Rugby.

I’ll go into much more detail below but give it a try, got trailers and images below. Check it all out and give me a like and a comment at the end.

Open Grave (2013) Review

Open Grave is a compete mystery. The whole way through this film I had my brain on override to figure what the hell was going on, normally in horror films especially I get what’s happening and I have a good guess how it will end. This though, no idea until it revealed what was happening at the end. So to summarise it’s a horror film with a lot suspense and clues so small/scattered that it will keep you guessing until the end. Really hard to review this without spoilers so preper for a lot of them. I’ll go into much more detail below but for now bookmark this if you are waiting to see the film, leave any comments below, and I will look forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts.

You’re Next (2013) Review

You’re Next proves that starting strong means nothing, it’s entirely how you end and boy does this end strong. This film is probably my favourite horror film of 2013 and I only saw it right near the end which sad but really fun. The film has a lot of energy and when it gets going it doesn’t stop until the end, lots of interesting kills, good thrilling music and the camera work did manage to get at time with a jump here and there. Also if you are a fan of strong female leads then you will love this film because Erin played by Shami Vinson kicks all kind of ass. I’ll go into much more detail below but for now bookmark this if you are waiting to see the film, leave any comments below, and I will look forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts.

No One Lives (2012) Review

This horror film is terrible but also a lot of fun! No One Lives nearly delivers on its name as well in that 90% of the people in the film die, which is a nice change of pace from the last couple of horror films I saw with zero fatalities. The premise behind this film is great, love the idea and I would like a really well done version but this is pure entertaining horror so am fine with it. The acting is mostly terrible but Luke Evans clearly had a blast. The violence is way up there and the dialogue sometime funny both intentionally and unintentional had me in stitches. I’ll go into much more detail below but for now bookmark this if you are waiting to see the film, leave any comments below, I look forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts. There will be spoilers.

The Conjuring (2013) Review

The film is good but my hang up comes with the idea of another haunting film that uses the same clichés over and over again. As a horror film it is better than most, the acting is good, it’s well-paced and the story had a clear direction, my only problem is it being another haunted house. I promise I won’t judge it harshly for its stereotypical genre but I will be mentioning it. There is one golden nugget in this film though and it’s the idea of professional Paranormal Investigators, it’s been done before but this felt like a lot of fun and I really wanted to see the stories behind some of the weirder items in their paranormal vault, like that samurai mask (sequel! Or prequel). The film is well made but the film is getting ridiculous hype for nothing more than a polished version of the same haunted house story. I’ll go into much more detail below but for now bookmark this if you are waiting to see the film, leave any comments below, I look forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts. There will be spoilers.

World War Z (2013) Review

World War Z is nothing special but it’s alright and whilst I won’t be seeing it again I don’t regret seeing it today. The story is the weakest part but the characters and acting was pretty good, some moments even made me laugh, sadly this was not on purpose and I nearly cried of laughter. Some warnings going into this film are that this isn’t a horror film nor is it an outbreak film, it feels more like an action thriller that happens to feature Zombie esq people (They shouldn’t run or climb). Anyway this review will not be a happy ordeal and I plan to put a few spoilers around the place so watch out for them.

V/H/S/2 (2013) Review

Feels like only a week ago I was reviewing the trailer and only a year ago I reviewed the first film, no wait it was. And you’d think with such a ridiculously quick turn over that this film would be a shambles but surprisingly it’s actually better than its predecessor. All of the segments are at least good and I haven’t seen that in anthology for a very long time. One of the segments could easily be turned into a full length film that I would easily watch. This time around the film has some new and really talented writers and directors which make for the significant improvement over the last film. In this film you get to look forward to ghosts, zombies, demon monsters and even aliens so get your copy of V/H/S/2 however you like because you won’t regret it.

Evil Dead (2013) Review

It wasn’t bad as an average horror film but I expected better and was ultimately disappointed by this gory but sadly unappealing remake. Now don’t start getting at me with being a downer. I am an optimist when it comes to films, and I judge films equally and so this review isn’t average because I didn’t like the original being remade. Here is my optimistic Trailer Review, and I loved the Original Trilogy which I have also Reviewed. The reason this film is average is because it’s just like everything else in horror, gore increases, story and character become meaningless. Oh and when a film claims to be the scariest I will ever see, I don’t think it is wrong to expect at least to be scared once.

The Bay (2012) Review

I liked the bay, nothing special but it is quite fun to watch. As a found footage it does feel more like someone had found this footage and decided to present it to people, the way it does this is by having it presented as a documentary about the events from leaked footage taken from the government. It doesn’t necessarily scare but it isn’t very pleasant what actually happens, it’s a worrying kind of fear like when you watch a story about diseases and outbreaks. Overall it’s pretty interesting to watch and if you would like to see something between contagion and VHS then this is probably for you. On a separate note since I have you, you can still vote over at the side for my Christmas review and this review will be my last horror review until after Christmas as I will be going into full Christmas mode after today. Christmas!
