Most people who know me and have read my reviews would guess I liked 300 quite a bit and you would be right, so obviously I was going to see Rise of an Empire. Sadly and not unexpectedly this was a weaker contender than its star studded predecessor but it wasn’t as bad as it could have been. The acting was passable if only dragged along by its two leads, seriously cannot remember anyone past Sullivan Stapleton and Eva Green who were both pretty good. The story and general script was pretty bad and somehow seemed smaller in scale than 300, which seems impossible considering how much more happened in this film. The battles and action was pretty great and as where the visuals short of some effects I would not have used in this film. The visuals where strong and the music wasn’t bad either. I’ll go into much more detail below but for now bookmark this if you are waiting to see the film, if you have seen the film then check out the spoiler sections and I will look forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts.
“Let it be shown we chose to die on our feet rather than live on our knees!”
300 might not have been everyone’s cup of tea but as a blood thirty male I found great joy in watching the sword and sandal mayhem. I had my doubts about the plot of this one and how they could make a sequel but after some research I actually really like the idea behind this film. Now onto the trailer and boom! We get battles, 6 packs, horse riding, boat crashing and oceans of Greek/Persian blood. The boats interest me because very rarely do you ever see ancient naval warfare and Athenians where famous for their navy, just hope somebody says Ramming Speed! And gets those drums going. In conclusion trailer good, Tim want more and yet now I must wait until 2014, such horrible thing to do teasing me with a trailer! Hope you enjoy the trailer and stills I managed to grab. Comment and like at the end please.
Well my new feature seems to be doing well, got a lot of likes and comments so I am happy. My actual predictions however could have been better but overall I was surprisingly close on the numbers. The Purge through me off this weekend with stellar numbers and The Internship very much like the film itself disappointed. So check out the final results this weekend and I’ll be back on Friday for the most anticipated release of Man of Steel.
This is a new feature I am thinking of implementing each week. I know a lot of my followers are stat addicts and being a movie blog I tend to keep an eye on box office figures. The figures can be very important to films, not only for studios but for viewers who want a sequel or to avoid one and if you just want to know your favourite film is doing well. Hopefully good films making money will be a new trend. I’d appreciate any feedback as I am trying it out before the big weekend of Man of Steel’s release.
Dredd 3D is fantastic and beautifully brutal from the visuals to the sound. This film clearly learned from past failures and started with a very simple plot that is hard to screw up, this being done with people who clearly new the source material and from that knew that this was the best way to start a film about Judge Dredd. The only problems with this film is that it would need a more complex story out of the comics and an increased budget but apart from that I can’t find faults. So I would love to see a sequel which could easily fix the problems I found with this film and would love to see a Batman begins to the Dark Knight Style turn around. In other words it’s a great start.
