What Would You Like More Of In Films?

Well the last question I asked was extremely popular. So like film studios am rolling out the sequel as quick as possible. I’ll probably need to clarify what this question is asking. I want to know if there is something in movies that they used to have or that they have never really tried that you would like to see more of in future films. Think outside the box. I really want some opinions on this one because we all wish that the thing we really like should be made more mainstream or popular. And in films they can make anything so why don’t they. Mine is after the break.

Han Shot First

For me I want more space battles and antihero’s. When was the last time you saw a good space battle, most sci fi films set in other places are avoiding space battles or any real space exploration nowadays and I don’t know why. Even Star Trek Into Darkness didn’t have much, the was more in a episode from the original series than that film. I quite liked The one from Revenge of the Sith, you know the one right at the beginning. One a few good things to come from the prequels.

As for the antihero’s, well they are extremely rare. An by antihero I mean a Han Solo,  a Hell Boy and to a somewhat more extreme area a Judge Dredd. Hopefully Guardians of the Galaxy and the new Star Wars films will solve both of them but am still waiting. But now I want to know your answers so sign off in the comments.

Less films like ‘The Other Woman’. I have no problem with a cheap romantic comedy, but this was just awful. The film advertised itself as three strong women coming together and they don’t need a man – yet the whole film revolved around a man!
Better written female characters is what we need more of.

I would like to see more improved bad guys, they all seem very cliche lately, like they were an after thought to the film itself.

Great question! I would also like to see more space battles; it looks like Guardians of the Galaxy could have some really good ones.

As many other people I also want to see a space battle to live up to the ones I saw in Star Wars when I was young.

I want to see a really awesome female protagonist, even though I know there are some out there, I just really want someone who kicks ass.

The last thing I want to see more of in films.. Is a good adaption. I, myself have been scarred from the adaption of The Last Airbender, so I still am very critical when I see good adaptions. I feel as if every young adult book is being made into a movie, and I am quite apprehensive about watching them! So I think that’s what I really want to see!

I honestly want my movies to just be honest to the story they are telling. Too many times a movie comes out that is PG-13 and it clearly should have been R. That just kills it for me. If a movie is meant to be PG or PG-13 then let it be, write it that way, but if it is meant to be R don’t try to write it any other way. Wish movies would go back to the seventies and eighties. You got what you paid for back then – man I sound old. Also, one movie, complete. Don’t even think about a sequel until it is a success. Tired of all the money corrupting things. Nice question. I could go on and on, but I won’t.

I know this may sound odd but I want to see more meaningful and original plot lines. I know it is very difficult to find anything original nowadays, but back in the day film-makers really tried to find the best material to shoot because the film cost so much, and they could not afford to shoot something risky. As for anti-heroes, yes, I agree. They are very interesting. They also make for great character studies 🙂

I want more practical effects. CGI is a wonderful tool (watch Life of Pi), but it should be reserved for illusions that practical effects cannot achieve. I don’t know about you, but to me Return to Oz from the 1980’s feels like a more convincing Oz than the one on Oz: The Great and Powerful.

I want to see more genuine Sci-Fi. Today we have the technology to make any outlandish, imaginative vision possible (see Life of Pi) and yet we are using it to create explosions. Make Foundation, make Stranger In A Strange Land, make a good version of Dune! Most cinematic sci-fi is just action dressed up to look like science fiction. Start tapping into the vast literary pool.

Paradoxically though, I also want to see more corny old-school sci-fi. The Fifth Element was the last film that qualified as that. Guardians of the Galaxy might. And it seems to me that another film is looming on the horizon that might bring back the genre. What is that one called? Let me think…

Space battles, yes. In the new Star Wars I want some X-Wing Vs TIE Fighter stuff. Proper dogfights. I’d like to see the ships in sci-fi films do stuff. PEW PEW!! PEW PEW PEW! (big splosion). Not just hang there like useless giant metal poops in space.

I want capable leading ladies that aren’t shoe-horned in just for the pre-pubescent adolescent boy viewers.

Which kind of conflicts with the next entry on my list, because I want more sex. And I’m not talking run of the mill, assume the missionary posish sex, either. I’m sick of the this current school of thought that, oh, it’s okay for your little precious to see people get beheaded and for the heroes to walk around with dozens of victims’ blood drenched into their once-white, torn wife-beater vests, but it’s OMG TOTALLY INAPPROPRIATE for same little precious to see a love scene. There’s something wrong with you. And there’s something wrong with censorship boards.

I’ve lost track of my rant, but those will do for now thanks!

What you don’t like tits maggie representing the girls? Haha! Totally get it, I want more of Emily Blunt in Edge of Tomorrow style leading ladies 😀

Haha have you read Tom’s comment because you may agree xD

But no I agree that there is something wrong with the idea that a 10 year old can see people getting shot and beaten to a bloody pulp but seeing a tender love scene is just wrong! It’s ludicrous but I will also say that most sex scenes in films are just terrible.

Thanks for the comment and here is a weird question. Whats your favourite film sex scene?

I just saw Tom’s comment, and I concur!

As for my favourite film sex scene… Does Team America count? 😀

Seriously though, there are different types of sex scenes. The sexy ones, the realistic ones and the downright kinky ones. But a few of my favs would probably be from Black Swan, 9 Songs, Fatal Attraction, Secretary and maybe Eyes Wide Shut.

I want to see more sci-fi romances. Seems that there just aren’t enough of them out there. I’ve been curious to see Upside Down, and tho the reviews haven’t been great, I still think it’s an intriguing concept. Wish Hollywood made more of this subgenre than rom-coms!

I feel like most heroes nowadays are some shade of anti-hero. Captain America is the only sincere hero around. I’d like to see more of them, to be honest. They get thrown under the bus as boring, but I think Cap had plenty to struggle with in Winter Soldier.

And don’t mean to be a total contrarion lol, I’d like to see more sci-fi movies that aren’t effects heavy (although I will never turn down a good space battle). Stuff like Another Earth, Eternal Sunshine, or Moon

I’ll agree with you. I want more of a clear line between the two. The boy scouts and the rebels. If I see Batman meet superman and I don’t see that conflict of philosophies it will fail.

      I want more of both.

Haha I have heard much worse from my best commentators. I normally encourange debate 😀

Oh yeah I love a good indie sci fi film, because the budget doesn’t allow for massive effects they will focus more on plot and dialogue. Moon was so good!

Sci Fi horror is another great sub genre they don’t make many of. I’d love to see some more.

Thanks for the comment Lauren. Favourite sci fi horror?

Space battles definitely…but to add onto that….movies void of CGI and going back to old-school filmmaking. Have you ever seen the making of Alien/Aliens (I’m sure you have)…it’s so brilliant and more terrifying to watch movies prior to CGI era.

Animatronics. When combined with today’s CGI, animatronics can look more realistic than ever. It’s a shame films don’t utilize them very often anymore.

Serenity gave you a good anti-hero,

i know it would never happen but i would like to see more films judged on quality rather than box office money.

when it comes to what we see is a few things, stop editing real non CGI effects in horror, its an art.

a new michael myers – laurie strode horror battle ( i know Viktor Crowley and Marybeth are trying but that is only set over 3 days)

more redefining sequels, much like Alien to Aliens same characters different genre.

Instead of ruining a video game with a film let’s make it a TV show.

and finally people to stop comparing a new film to an old film it could never live up too.

That’s a lot. Malcolm “Mal” Reynolds is great but nearly 10 years ago.

Movies are a business so that’s not going to happen.

So you want to see more of ‘The Thing’ style horror effects? I completely agree 😀

So you want film franchises to change there genre. I’ll agree to that, but its a tricky business.

I’d like a HBO budgeted Halo tv show.

Haha it will never happen but I think you shouldn’t compare to films with legendary status because you can only get there after being around for eons 😀
