Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) Review

Guardians of the Galaxy might be my favourite film of the year, seen it three times. Marvel has had a brilliant year with creating new genres within the comic book genre. Easily the funniest superhero film ever made but not in a really cheesy way like Thor 2, it was genuinely funny, it was a James Gunn film through and through. The visuals are great, the split between practical effects and CGI are really well done, and the sheer amount of aliens created visually in the film brings you back to star wars. Then we have the cast who are a perfect group for this action adventure film in space, you get them, you’re with them. Well done James knew you could do it.

Mini Trailer Reviews

I have missed a few trailers so I am going to just put them all into one mini review post. Friday is for my first poll feature post: Good Points To Films I hate. I have three trailers which I quite liked and I hope you feel the same, however if you disagree don’t be shy and tell me in the comments. Guardians of the Galaxy (Trailer #1) Review

Well that’s certainly something, not sure what exactly but yeah. Overall I am liking the look and feel of the characters and this world they’ve built, seems like a well-established set of worlds. I do have a problem with the structure of this trailer, the first half is a minute and a bit of character establishment which I get but really meant the content was just a teaser trailer, slightly disappointed on that front, hoping for more story structure in the next trailer. Another opinion is that past the people who are already on board for this film (me and the nerd minority) I don’t see many people being won over by this trailer; think they needed a stronger sell. I do however love that music at the end. Enjoy the review and please tell me your initial reactions to this new trailer, more so if you disagree.

Box Office Predictions (06-08th Sep) Results

And the results are in, Riddick took the weekend! With modest results, but a win is a win. I saw Riddick and my review is the post before this one and I wasn’t too bothered by it, fun film but nothing really special. And nothing else happened. Go watch some movies!

Riddick (2013) Review

I rather enjoyed this film, but it also had some big problems. Mixed feelings really. Pitch Black is now a cult classic and it’s a film I always enjoy watching and whilst this film may not be as good it is a little closer to form for the character. The characters where interesting enough but having 11 tough guys and Riddick is a bit of an over kill on the masculine scale, and this is coming from the Predator guy! Fun though. Weird rushed pacing as well. Box Office Predictions (06-08th Sep)

Sorry for the lack posts recently, I just got Total War: Rome II and yes I am addicted. Anyway this weekend we have Riddick coming out and I am surprisingly excited to see it. I also don’t see any other film coming close so it should be a nice win for Diesel this weekend. Go watch some movies!

Fast & Furious 6 (2013) Review

I don’t even know where to begin. You watch the film and you keep shooting from good to bad to what?! The film is good but not great, it has some strong action and visuals but the story is scattered and the acting is as you’d expect. Unlike Fast Five it’s not great and tries to bring a smart script but ends up messy and just not as simple and focused as the last film. As I said in my trailer review the film looked great and was quite excited to see if the trailer was a glimpse of a great film or a spoiler filled thrill ride. Well that gets explained in the spoiler section. Riddick (Trailer #1) Review

Well here it is the first full trailer to the final film in the Riddick trilogy. I loved the first film, it had a unique feel to it and was so simple it’s hard not enjoy the ride. Then the follow up Chronicles of Riddick which was so far in the opposite direction even I had trouble keeping track of the Sci-Fi/Fantasy elements at play. Now watching this trailer I obviously feel it taking more influence from the first film, stranded on a desert planet, bounty hunters, the nasty monsters come out at night, R RATING! Love it all and I think it will be at the very least fun. Also got some interesting casting going on which I will talk about later, but on that note where the hell Karl Urban? Honestly put him in the trailer! The action looks good, the monsters look scary and Riddick’s eyes are glowing so let’s get this review started! Comment and like at the end please.

Fast & Furious 6 (Trailer #1) Review

Wow that actually looks pretty damn good. This film series has been a weird one to watch, what with it starting okay and then got steadily worse, started picking up again and now this is looking to be better than the rest. I really like that they seem to have been able to bring most of the cast back and with fun new extra that should prove entertaining. What’s interesting to me is how this film is more a different film compared to the rest. It feels more like a great heist film than the street racing of the first installment. I generally don’t care much about cars but friends who do say they have a great selection and some impressive looking stunts. You can clearly see a good mix of both practical and CGI effects used in this film. The fights, the crashes, THE TANK! All look good to me and I am actually pretty excited to see it which I haven’t for any of the others so my fingers are crossed. I would love to hear everyone’s thoughts on the latest trailer so please comment.
